Requirements

To use the FaceSpan 4.3 Update release, you will need:

A valid FaceSpan 4 registration number; and
A Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) or Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger).

Installation

To install FaceSpan 4.3:

Quit FaceSpan if it is running.
Make a backup of your existing FaceSpan 4.2 folder.
Download and expand the FaceSpan 4.3 archive.
Copy the contents of the FaceSpan 4.3 archive to your /Applications folder. This will create a FaceSpan 4.3 folder.

Requirements

To use the FaceSpan 4.3 Demonstration release, you will need:

A Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) or Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger).

Limitations

The FaceSpan 4.3 Demonstration has the following limitations but is fully functional in all other ways:

FaceSpan will operate for 30 days only.
Applications built with the FaceSpan Demo will show a Demonstration alert when they are launched and will run for 2 minutes.

NOTE: We are in the midst of transitioning FaceSpan into a Late Night Software product. However, the documentation included with the product has not yet been revised to reflect this transition. Questions about how to use FaceSpan can be posted to the fs-talk mailing list, or emailed to: support@latenightsw.com.

Installation

To install the FaceSpan 4.3 Demonstration:

Download and expand the FaceSpan 4.3 Demo archive.
Copy the contents of the FaceSpan 4.3 Demo archive to your /Applications folder. This will create a FaceSpan 4.3 Demo folder.

FaceSpan 4.3 Changes

FaceSpan now requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later to run.
Cosmetic problems drawing header titles in the object palettes have been resolved.
Problems creating new projects on Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) systems have been resolved.
The layout of FaceSpan windows has been altered to remove wasted space.
Command-. Keyboard accelerator has been added to Stop command in Project menu.
Pressing Option-Return now inserts AppleScript line continuation (as it does in all other AppleScript editors).
Crashing problems deleting windows from projects have been resolved.
FaceSpan no longer creates a damaged project when asked to overwrite an existing project.
The Enclose in Container and Remove Container commands are now undoable.
A number of crashing problems duplicating/copying window items have been resolved.
A number of crashing problems in the FaceSpan 3 project importer have been resolved.
FaceSpan no longer hangs when importing an existing FaceSpan 3 project.
The layout editor no longer hangs after a radio button matrix is dragged into a tab view.
Problems where the script editor became inoperative following a compile have been resolved.
Mouse Up and Mouse Down events are now properly generated for controls.
Support for adding Scripting Additions to a project has been added.
Support for localizing projects has been added.
A 'Special Characters' menu item to the Edit menu has been added.
'Show character palette' as an option in the menu item properties inspector pane has been added.
The About FaceSpan panel now displays the version number correctly.
Fixed an issue with setting "Other" attributes for menu items.
Fixed an issue where dropping files onto folders in the Project Window would cause the app to stall.
Fixed a crashing bug relating to the loading of certain fonts when they are defined as part of the AppleScript Formatting set.
The version property correctly reports the application version as set in the Executable Settings panel of the FaceSpan IDE.
Tab views can now be deleted.
It is now possible to call AppleScript subroutines in other Window and View objects.
